Invitation Suite

Overview

Role: Designer | Duration: 3 weeks

For this project, I designed a complete wedding invitation suite for a hypothetical wedding, including the invitation, details card, RSVP card, and a coordinating envelope liner. The goal was to create a suite that conveys elegance and a sense of timeless sophistication, while demonstrating careful attention to typography, hierarchy, and overall composition. The project required full design responsibility aside from the actual wedding details.

Research & Inspiration

The first step in the design process was conducting thorough research into wedding invitation trends and historical inspiration. I explored a range of traditional and contemporary suites, paying particular attention to typography, layout, color palettes, and ornamentation. I created an inspiration board that helped me define the visual tone I wanted: classic, refined, and elegant with subtle modern touches. This research informed my initial sketches and helped establish a design vocabulary that could be applied consistently across the suite.

Ideation & Sketches

I developed three distinct concepts for the suite, each with unique approaches to typography, hierarchy, and layout. Each version included the invitation, details card, and RSVP card, allowing me to explore multiple design directions. Sketching was critical for quickly iterating ideas, testing proportions, and visualizing how different fonts and decorative elements would work together. These sketches served as the foundation for moving into digital design.

Digital Design & Iteration

After selecting the strongest ideas from my sketches, I recreated each version in Adobe Illustrator, producing a total of nine digital cards (three versions of each card).

I submitted these for critique, receiving feedback on typographic hierarchy, spacing, and alignment. Using this feedback, I refined each version, adjusting font pairings, spacing between elements, and decorative flourishes. After applying these revisions, I selected the strongest version as the basis for further development.

I then explored variations of this strongest design, experimenting with minor layout adjustments and alternate embellishments. Additional critiques focused on improving legibility and visual balance across the suite. I incorporated these suggestions to finalize the design.

Final Product

The final suite was printed professionally. I designed a coordinating envelope liner that complemented the typography and aesthetic of the cards, adding an additional layer of sophistication and attention to detail.

Outcome

This three-week project allowed me to take a design concept from initial research through final production, strengthening my skills in typography, layout, and composition. It reinforced the importance of iteration and critique in creating a refined, cohesive design. By designing the envelope liner and handling photography, I was able to demonstrate attention to detail, visual storytelling, and the ability to present work professionally.
